Chrome OS is an Operating System that runs Web-based Applications though there are a few Offline Apps as well. Its a Fast operating system. Based on Linux Kernel and Google Chrome Browser as the main Interface. UI is very simple and clean. 
It is often referred as Cloud OS as applications and user data stays in cloud. 

The first Chrome OS laptops were known as Chromebooks and were initially offered by Samsung and Acer back in 2011.

Chromebit -  HDMI dongle running Chrome OS 

Chrome OS Like Android is an open-source OS. 
Chromebooks are basically for those who have Wireless network availability all time as its mainly based on WebApps. Few Offline apps are also available at Chrome Web Store
Chrome OS focuses on Netbooks basically and its not a full-packed OS which can  run resource intensive program like Adobe-Photoshop.

Here Chromebooks providing a good success  together with low-cost hardware and very fast updates system updates are delivered and installed automatically keeping your chromebooks up-to-date. 

With apps like Google Classroom for teachers and students it has become a lot easier to deliver home-works, attendance, classroom discussion and interaction and communication with students, and parents. Classroom helps students organise their work in Google Drive, complete and hand it in, and communicate directly with their teachers and peers.

Here are a few Short cuts to master on your on Chromebooks : 
  • Take a screenshot: Press Ctrl + (or Ctrl + F5)
  • Take a partial screenshot: Press Ctrl + Shift + (or Ctrl + Shift + F5), then click and drag
  • Turn Caps Lock on or off: Press Alt + Search
  • Lock your screen: Press Search + L
  • Sign out of your Google Account: Press Ctrl + Shift + q (twice)
  • See all keyboard shortcuts: Press Ctrl + Alt + ?
  • Shit + Esc : Launch Task Manager 
  • Alt + Shift + m : Launch the File System app.
  • Alt + Shift + n : See your notifications.
  • Ctrl + L or Alt + d : Select content in the address bar.
