Honor 7X Vs Redmi 5 Plus : Battle of Mid-Range Smartphones

Honor 7X Vs. Redmi 5Plus

By technologie007:

Usually on our blog we don't review smartphones but these two smartphones i.e honor 7X and redmi 5plus are worth comparing. As the Competition in mid-rangers (cost effective smartphones) going intense, honor and xiaomi both are offering superb specifications smartphones at a reasonable price point.

Honor 7X was launched back in October 2017 seeing the popular success of Honor, Xiaomi launched their Redmi 5 Plus in December 2017.
Both smartphones are offering a 6" screen (approx.) with full touch no touch keys in front with a 18:9 display.

The front look of both Honor 7X and Xiaomi Redmi 5Plus is elegant and very impressive

Honor 7X is ergnomically more impressive to hold in hands and design and comfortable in grip, though it depends from individual to individual. (HF&E - Human Factors and Ergonomics).
Otherwise Redmi 5 Plus in design is not bad either its also beautifully designed with a good finish. In fact Both smartphones feel slim to hold and easy thanks to one-handed operation feature of MIUI which makes it easier to use big screen smartphones.

Coming to technical specifications

Honor 7X is powered by HiSilicon Kirin 659 chip set.
HiSilicon fully owned by Huawei and is offering a good hardware for honor 7X. ↷

With a 16nm (FinFET), 64-Bit CPU, Octa-Core, and GPU ARM-Mali T-830 MP2 offers its users with a decent gaming performance and good performance overall.

While the Redmi 5 Plus offering Qualcomm MSM8953 Snapdragon 625 using leading cutting edge 14nm technology (FinFET) which is another mid-range to mid-up range segment but a power-pack processor.  Also an Octa-Core A-53 Cortex processor supporting 64-Bit with a Combination of Adreno 506 GPU (Qualcomm claiming to provide PC Class graphics with this GPU)  with integrated X-9 LTE category.

Comparison Between Both SoC

      Name:          Kirin 659                        Snapdragon 625

  • Brand:               HiSilicon                Qualcomm

  • CPU Bit:           64-bit                                             64-bit
  • Fabrication:   16nm FinFET                           14nm FinFET
  • No. of Cores:         8                                                    8
  • Core Type:     ARMCortex-A53                 ARM Cortex-A53
  • CPU Freq:  4x 2.36 GHz+4x 1.7 GHz         8x up to 2.0 GHz
  • GPU:          ARM Mali-T830 MP2                   Adreno 506
  • Modem LTE:  Cat. 6 LTE                           Cat. 7 (X9 LTE)*
  • VoLTE Support:     Yes                                            Yes
Both 659 kirin and 625 qualcomm processors are power efficient and Adreno 506 will deliver better gaming performance than Mali-T830.

Since Huawei is manufacturing the Kirin chips so they must have optimised it very well for their honor devices based on EMUI to deliver a fast and efficient performance.

Finally the main crux is: Be The Hardware+Software combination which will be seen in different smartphones lineups and respective models and how they actually work in real scenarios.

"One best feature which is seen in Honor 7X is the Wi-Fi Bridge. You might have heard of Wi-Fi Hotspot but thats different where you can just share your Mobile Data over Wi-Fi."
With Wi-Fi Bridge share the available Wi-Fi among your friends. With this feature in Honor 7X use the smartphone as a Wi-Fi Router to further connect 4 other devices. (Could b useful if you don't want to share your Wireless Modem's Password.)

Homescreen of Redmi 5 Plus now is more cool in MIUI 9.2

Final Conclusion:

Camera:
Both Redmi 5 Plus and Honor 7X are superb smartphones offering great specifications at a good price-point. But Honor 7X is also offering dual camera at back 16MP and 8MP Front is great for photography, while Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus with single 12MP camera at back 5MP Front is okay not very impressive.

Battery: 4000mAh in Redmi 5 Plus is sure winner here than 3340mAh in honor 7X.

SoC (System on chip): Both Kirin 659 and Qualcomm's 625 are good processors with power efficiency but Qualcomm's processor is based on 14nm technology.

Display: Both are offering IPS LCD 18:9 display with a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels.
Touch of Honor 7X is smoother.

Design: Looks and Design of Honor 7X is too good and it looks much premium and slim though Redmi 5 Plus also is beautiful from front and cool as well but its same old design from back makes it old fashioned like any other Redmi devices.
