Recently HTC released 3 Budget Smartphones. The Desire 516 , Desire 616, Desire 816.
Out of these three Desire 516 is a very affordable one. It's priced under 15K.(Rs14000-13000 - as seen on some online shopping sites, Even Available as low as Rs12,500 or Rs.11,000 on Amazon.in)

The Desire 516 competes with Moto - G at this price point and also a quite similar tech score.

SPECIFICATIONS :
Display: 5 inches 960x540 pixel qHD resolution (220ppi)

Battery: 1950mAh, lasts 1 day( approx. 14-15hrs while using mobile data)

Storage: 4GB Out of which 2GB available for installing apps and games.
App2SD feature not available, Can't move apps to sd.

Camera:  5MP rear with LED flash only above average not so impressive, 2MP front good for Selfies.

SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 200CPU: 1.2GHz quad-coreGPU: Adreno 302. Overall decent hardware combinations.

RAM: 1GB enough for multitasking, depends on your usage.

Operating system: Android 4.3( not disclosed whether they will roll out Android 4.4 kitKat, May release but not sure, Till date no update available)

UI : HTC Sense 5.1

Connectivity: 3G, W-Fi, Bluetooth, Dual-SIM.

Supports 1080p playback by default player

Though all specs are good but here Android 4.3 is present which is now outdated, When I tried to contact the HTC staff It seemed they were not sure about any update.
But atlest If HTC are not releasing any updates then they must release some minor PATCH fixes which are necessarily required.

After using desire 516 for one week after its purchase following problems were encountered:

- One of the minor problem with this device is that When Brightness is dimmed very low i.e almost zero then there is slight blinking of display. The only solution to this is a  "patch fix"  and its not problem with one device.
Many of its owners using it for more than one month or two might be unaware of this When It was noticed firstly I ignored , but while using in dim light conditions it was unusually blinking which was very annoying.

Also the Customer support team here in India was not well trained  to handle such situation. They diagnosed this issue as a hardware problem and changed my phone's motherboard and Display along with touch screen. Still after doing all this stuff and keeping and testing my phone for about 2 weeks at Service Centre, The phone was still showing that same problem.

When Brightness was again kept very low i.e when I dimmed brightness again it showed up same Blinking of display.
Then they said Actually this is a Software issue and they requested an email to HTC support team for a patch upgrade via FOTA but till date NO Patch has been released for this issue.( Let me tell you that The above problem was reported on 29 August 2014)

You must be thinking What a funny story? Hmm.. And the Stupid engineers at HTC service center in India, couldn't handle the situation properly only just ignoring the issue. Ya it's not there fault it's the Company's carelessness.

Now Let us See What HTC has done with this Device Desire 516:

- HTC has  used only the stock Android UI and just added BlinkFeed feature and changed menu style nothing more than this, The stock Android UI could also be seen in some cheap Chinese Android Maker's also, And HTC are feeling proud of their HTC sense UI .What a foolish thing? Ha Ha ...
Very minimal work is done on UI improvement.

- Another also very stupid thing HTC has done here is : "No Auto Brightness" feature is there in Desire 516 in the display settings.
When I asked this thing to HTC support team they were unable to answer.
Even with a phone around half the price(7K) has this feature of Auto Brightness. I don't know what HTC has done with software.

- BlinkFeed no doubts is a good news feed reader and HTC is feeling so proud of this I don't know why.  Also  some times it also misbehave by not showing images properly.  As an alternate Google has Google now which could be used as good alternative.

Also Camera at back lacks Auto Focus features.

- The 3 navigation keys at bottom are very  slow in response, sometimes no response. back and home key sometimes won't work.

- The phone dial pad is horrific Can't describe its so slow some time if you have pressed 4-5 digits very quickly it will show up so late Giving  a laggy response.

I've also tested desire 616 it didn't showed such problems.(Though some times it was laggy)

- Call performance is also very bad the Mic is located at the bottom giving a very poor sound quality not much sensitive and gives a feeble voice feedback to the listeners.

- No noise Cancel features.

- Proximity Sensor also don't work properly at times.(Couldn't find any sensor in front only a 2MP camera could be seen )

- Speaker sound is too low.

I am not just here to criticize HTC but can't find any good features in this particular device HTC desire 516 except BlinkFeed and also playing intense graphics game without lags(except a few).

So finally :

It  has more of disadvantages than advantages, it's a Big Flop in the latest Desire range.

Advice:

To all those who want to buy phone's under 15-14K Mine advice would be better go with Moto or BlackBerry Z3, Sony , or Samsung , Nokia, even these new Chinese brand Xiaomi, and others could be a Better choices.

HTC is  a big brand name and doing such foolishness. It was not expected.

It's name should be HTC Desire "Stupid".This sounds good. Ha Ha ...😄😄😁
